Legislative History

A Legislative History for Federal Legislation is the best guide you can find to outline all the actions of the bill you are analyzing. Legislative Histories are available from 1969- present in Proquest Congressional and can* provide you with:

  • Summary
  • Debates (in the Congressional Record)
  • Bill Versions
  • Reports
  • Hearings (testimony)
  • All other actions

*some bills will have more information than others.  Factors such as the importance of the bill, related bills, the politics of the bill, and the overall reception o the bill will influence the overall information available on each bill.

Please see the Legislative History guide for more information.
