Photovoice Methodology

PhotoVoice is a UK based non-profit organisation that promotes the use of ethical photography and community engagement for social change. PhotoVoice was first established in 1999, and registered as a business in 2000. It was then registered as a charity in 2003, and converted into a Community Interest Company in 2022, PhotoVoice has delivered projects, training, exhibitions and consultancy worldwide. They are based in London, and deliver in-person projects across the world.

The mission of Photovoice Worldwide is to help individuals and organizations worldwide use photovoice safely, ethically, and successfully, and create a global community for photovoice peer-to-peer support and continuing education.

PhotovoiceKit is a complete, web-based toolkit for carrying out photovoice projects. Users are guided through the entire photovoice process, from the introduction of photovoice, through discovering the power and ethics of photography and photography skills, to carrying out community awareness events and strategies for taking action. PhotovoiceKit features interactive lessons that engage the learner for enhanced attention and retention, and provides downloadable documents, customizable templates, and illustrations. PhotovoiceKit also provides a platform for storing, organizing, and sharing your group’s photos, as well as for communication between group members and leaders throughout the photovoice project.
