Photovoice Methodology

This guide provides resources to conducting a photovoice project.

Project Planning Outline

  1. Define the Research Question and Objectives:

    • Clearly outline what you aim to explore or achieve with your photovoice project. This will guide all subsequent steps.
  2. Recruit Participants:

    • Identify and recruit participants who have a vested interest in the research topic. Ensure diversity to capture a wide range of perspectives.
  3. Ethics and Consent:

    • Obtain informed consent from all participants. Discuss ethical considerations, including privacy, confidentiality, and the use of photographs.
  4. Training and Orientation:

    • Conduct training sessions to familiarize participants with the photovoice methodology and ethical guidelines.
  5. Group Discussions:

    • Organize group sessions where participants can share their photographs and discuss their significance. Facilitate discussions to identify common themes and insights.
  6. Data Collection and Analysis:

    • Transcribe group sessions and use thematic analysis to analyze the transcripts.
  7. Advocacy and Dissemination:

    • Plan how to share the findings with a broader audience. This could include exhibitions, presentations, reports, or social media campaigns to advocate for change based on the research findings.
