How to Search

Use Keywords to search for articles or working papers on your topic.

Example:  inflation and fiscal policy

Find alternate terms: monetary, money supply, interest rates

Combine terms with AND, OR, NOT

Example: monetary or fiscal
              inflation and interest rates

Databases are available from the Databases A-Z link on the Library Homepage. For classic economic journal literature, use JSTOR for full-text articles from scholarly journals (excluding the most recent 5-years of publication.) Business Source Premier is usually a good source of articles on current topics.

 

Find it!

Most databases link directly to full-text articles.  If not, click on Find It button to locate the article in PDF format in other databases or in print in the Library.

Characteristics of a Scholarly Article

   What Is A Scholarly Article handout  

  • Always cite their sources in the form of footnotes or bibliographies
  • Are written by an authority or expert in the field whose credentials are prominently stated
  • Often have a formal appearance with tables, graphs, and diagrams
  • The language includes specialized terms from the discipline
  • Lengthy articles, typically more than 7 pages and often over 20 pages
  • Contain original research, experimentation, or in-depth studies in the field
  • Advertising is minimal or non-existent (if you are looking at the print or PDF version)
