The Meriam Library Diversity and Inclusion Team serves as the primary committee for articulating the Library’s commitment to diversity and inclusion practices. The MLDIT will develop guidelines to establish, prioritize, and fulfill goals that increase the diversity and inclusiveness of our workforce and collections. The MLDIT will work with the Library Administration and the Library Marketing and Outreach Committee to develop, advance, catalyze, and promote Library and campus efforts supporting an inclusive learning environment.
The Meriam Library Diversity and Inclusion Team will:
assess needs and identify issues and opportunities for diversity and inclusion efforts,
integrate diversity and inclusion into Library operations and planning efforts
provide representatives to diversity committees and initiatives campus wide.
In 2020, the Meriam Library Diversity and Inclusion Team facilitated a summer book club reading of the CSU Chico Book in Common, How to be an Antiracist, by Ibram X. Kendi.
Ibram X. Kendi's concept of antiracism reenergizes and reshapes the conversation about racial justice in America--but even more fundamentally, points us toward liberating new ways of thinking about ourselves and each other. Instead of working with the policies and system we have in place, Kendi asks us to think about what an antiracist society might look like, and how we can play an active role in building it. The MLDIT modeled discussion questions on the Growth Hack reading guide, and developed our own discussion questions. Please find our slide deck for each meeting below.
