SPED 343 - Overview of Special Education

The purpose of the Commission is to inspire, educate and protect the students of California. The Commission envisions all of California's diverse learners, preschool through grade 12, will be inspired and prepared to achieve their highest potential by a well-prepared and exceptionally qualified educator workforce.

The California Department of Education (CDE) actively supports teachers in their efforts to achieve advanced certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).

Information and resources to serve the unique needs of persons with disabilities so that each person will meet or exceed high standards of achievement in academic and nonacademic skills.

The California Department of Developmental Services plans, develops, implements, and monitors the statewide early intervention services system in collaboration with the California Department of Education.

A professional organization of speech-language pathologists and audiologists advancing services to children and adults with communication and related disorders.

OSERS supports programs that help educate children and youth with disabilities, provides for the rehabilitation of youth and adults with disabilities and supports research to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.
